You can see from this picture here the way the initial piercing happens. The needles smoothly going through & the trauma that's being caused just by this piece of jewellery that's being pushed through. 

Cannulas are used during a professional piercing environment. Sterile, Single use & different sizes depending. 

These needles are also used during a professional piercing environment. Which are also Sterile & Single use! So much safer.

When getting pierced make sure you research your piercer & check if they have good quality jewellery. Avoid places that use externally threaded pieces, these posts are cheap & not good quality. When being inserted into a new piercing the thread on the end of the post will scratch the wound & can cause irritation. 

They tarnish easier & just aren't the best overall. 

You will see that reputable piercers will use either one of these threads when piercing & any jewellery we sell in general, all the best quality for our clients. Safest to use & wear for long term.
